Saline Dreams

The Owens Lake environment presents extreme and challenging conditions that humans must coexist with. This project aims to explore and mitigate this extreme ecology by showcasing the various colors and textures of the saline ecology and promoting awareness about the fragile balance between humans and the environment.

The design creates a unique and immersive experience that allows visitors to interact with the brine in different ways, including on-ground experiences and remote drone perspectives. The new architecture and infrastructure are designed to support the ecological life in the area and create an ambiguous interface between the landscape and the built environment.

From the north brine reservoir to the painterly mystifying brine field to the south gridded performative salt pan, visitors and scientists can experience and get educated about the diverse landscape transitions caused by the high salinity of the area.
